China Life Insurance Becomes China's Second Largest Domestic IPO In One Day!

China Life Insurance was listed yesterday in the Shanghai Stock exchange and gapped open by more than 100% gain instantly. China life insurance is now China's second largest domestic IPO following Bank of China and is currently trading at a PE of about 100. China Life will only be included into the Shanghai index 10 days later due to a new policy to include new IPOs into the index after a cool down period of 11 days. This will help the index prevent false surges and speculative exits especially with the index futures that is going to be introduced to the markets soon.

Starbucks Wins Law Sue Against Shanghai Xing Ba Ke!

"Shanghai Xing Ba Ke" cafe was cited as a hostile brand piracy from Starbucks as Starbucks is currently known as "Xing Ba Ke" in mandarin. On top of using the same brand name, even the logo scheme was uncanningly similar. Justice was given to Starbucks as "Shanghai Xing Ba Ke" was ordered to change their business name and logo with effect from today. This moves goes to demonstrate the Chinese government's determination to fight piracy and to preserve the integrity of brand names. In my 4 years here in Shanghai, China, I have witnessed tremendous efforts put forward by the Chinese government to encourage branding and to fight branding piracy. Even though at this moment, piracy is still a serious problem in China, it is very quickly and swiftly takened care of as the days goes by. Indeed, solving problems is not an easy thing to do for such a huge nation, especially in the short term. Eventually, with the focus on better law enforcement procedures and control measures, I see the situation getting better and be par with international standards one day.
